AI news: Amazon Rolls Out AI Health Agent on Its Website and App, Gives Prime Members Free Virtual Care

Amazon expanded its Health AI agent to the main Amazon website and mobile app in mid-March 2026, making the agentic healthcare assistant available to its roughly 200 million U.S. Prime members. The tool was originally introduced in January 2026 as a feature within Amazon's One Medical app, but the expansion brings it to the company's primary consumer platform where it reaches a vastly larger audience.

Health AI is built on Amazon Bedrock as a multi-agent architecture. It can interpret medical records and lab results, answer health questions, manage prescriptions, schedule appointments with One Medical providers, and connect users directly with licensed healthcare professionals via message, video, or in-person visits. Prime members receive up to five free direct-message consultations with a One Medical provider for over 30 common conditions, including cold and flu, allergies, UTIs, and skin care concerns.

The move represents Amazon's most aggressive push into consumer healthcare since its $3.9 billion acquisition of One Medical in 2023. By embedding an AI health agent directly into the shopping experience that hundreds of millions of people already use daily, Amazon is betting that convenience and zero-cost entry will drive adoption in a market where traditional telehealth companies have struggled with user retention.

The competitive implications extend beyond healthcare. Amazon is demonstrating a playbook for embedding AI agents into existing consumer platforms rather than building standalone AI products. If Health AI gains traction, the same Bedrock-powered multi-agent architecture could be applied to other domains using the Amazon app as the distribution layer.
