Anthropic Launches Claude Variant Aimed at Small Businesses

Anthropic released a new Claude variant on May 14 targeting small businesses - the company's most direct move yet toward the SMB market after years of focusing primarily on enterprise contracts and developer API access.

The release is framed around making Claude practical for companies that don't have dedicated AI teams or technical staff to configure and maintain more complex deployments. Anthropic has built a strong reputation among developers and larger organizations, but small businesses have largely been an afterthought in how the company packages and prices its products.

Small businesses are already heavy users of AI tools. Most have defaulted to ChatGPT or standard Claude subscriptions because no purpose-built option existed for their scale. A product shaped around smaller teams, tighter budgets, and less technical staff on hand could consolidate some of that fragmented usage.

Anthropic is later to this segment than its main competitors. OpenAI spent 2023 focused on enterprise contracts before pushing harder into small-team products. Google and Microsoft moved aggressively into SMB AI through Workspace and Copilot integrations. The delay matters less than the fit, though - Claude's track record on accuracy-sensitive tasks makes it a credible option for small businesses where AI getting things wrong carries real costs, whether in client communications, financial summaries, or legal document review.

Full pricing and feature details for the small-business offering weren't available at publication time.
