Asana just acquired Stack AI, a no-code platform for building AI agents - software that takes multi-step automated actions without requiring you to write code. Acquisition terms weren't disclosed.
Stack AI lets non-technical teams build custom AI workflows through a visual interface: connect your data sources, set up decision logic, and the agent handles repetitive processes automatically - things like parsing documents, querying databases, or triggering other tools when conditions are met. It's aimed at operators and business users who find simple automation tools too limited but traditional software development too technical.
Asana has been expanding its AI Studio feature set, which automates task and project work within its platform. Stack AI's agent-building capabilities extend that toward more complex, multi-step workflows than Asana has supported natively. Every major productivity platform is trying to become an automation layer right now, and buying speed and talent beats building from scratch when the market is moving fast. ClickUp and Monday.com are pursuing the same playbook, which means Asana needed to move on this category before it became table stakes across all competitors.
For teams already running their project work inside Asana, consolidation has real value - fewer tools to manage, fewer integrations to maintain. Stack AI has operated as an independent product with its own user base outside Asana, though. What the integration timeline looks like - and whether standalone Stack AI continues to function during the transition - is the first real question for customers who aren't Asana users.
