Three months after Anthropic ran a Super Bowl ad and launched a promotional pricing push through March 28, a pattern is emerging among the wave of users who switched from ChatGPT to Claude: they are enthusiastic, they are engaged, and some of them are already frustrated.
The migration itself is real. OpenAI's recent model updates changed ChatGPT's conversational personality in ways that alienated power users - responses became more guarded, more generic, and less willing to engage with nuanced or creative requests. Users who had built deep workflows around ChatGPT's earlier behavior found their setups broken overnight with no warning and no recourse. Claude, with its reputation for more natural conversation and Anthropic's "we are different" positioning, was the obvious landing spot.
The Honeymoon Problem
But switching AI assistants is not like switching email providers. Users who invested months building conversation history, custom instructions, and workflow habits in ChatGPT are now rebuilding from scratch in Claude. And some are discovering that Claude has its own limitations - different ones, but limitations nonetheless.

This puts Anthropic in a familiar position. The same users who left OpenAI because it over-corrected on safety and personality are now watching Anthropic closely for signs of the same drift. Every model update becomes a test: did Claude get worse? Is Anthropic "pulling an OpenAI"?
The challenge is structural, not just cultural. As AI companies grow their user base, they face pressure from enterprise customers, regulators, and public scrutiny to tighten model behavior.
