$100 a month is what both Anthropic and OpenAI charge for their top consumer tiers. Claude Max and ChatGPT Pro cost exactly the same, which makes direct comparisons from working professionals unusually useful.

For accounting, taxation, and company law work - particularly in the Indian regulatory context - practitioners testing both are finding Claude's output consistently better. Responses on topics like GST provisions, Companies Act requirements, and indirect tax structures come back more precise and contextually grounded than equivalent ChatGPT Pro responses on identical queries.

The real friction with Claude Max is token consumption. Heavy prompts can exhaust the daily quota quickly, triggering lockouts that last 4-5 hours. That's a genuine problem if you're billing client work throughout the day. ChatGPT Pro doesn't have the same hard limits, making it more reliable for sustained output.

That tradeoff - better quality versus more predictable availability - is shaping how some professionals are making the call. At the same $100 price point, the question becomes whether occasional lockouts are an acceptable cost for more accurate answers on complex professional questions. For domain-specific regulatory work, several practitioners are concluding they are, and canceling ChatGPT Pro.

Anthropic hasn't publicly addressed the token quota complaints, but they're consistent enough across professional users that the company will likely need to adjust how Claude Max handles heavy single-session usage.
