Multiple users are reporting that Claude Sonnet 4.6 is cutting off mid-response, resetting the conversation to its starting state, and consuming tokens without producing any output. The issue surfaced in user reports on May 7, 2026.
The pattern is consistent across complaints: a prompt is sent, Claude begins generating a response, the output stops after two or three sentences, and the conversation resets as if the generation never happened. The tokens used during the failed attempt do not return. In at least one documented case, a user lost 7% of their daily token budget to a single failed generation.
Project-based conversations - the persistent workspace feature that lets users maintain ongoing context across sessions - appear to be most affected. The behavior is not a simple network timeout; the model actively starts generating before the interruption occurs, which rules out the most common connection-drop explanation.
Anthropix has not issued a public statement on the issue as of this writing. For users who regularly approach their monthly token limits, generation failures that consume budget without delivering output are a compounding problem. You lose the response and the tokens, and your monthly ceiling does not adjust.
