Spotify's AI DJ Adds French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese

AI news: Spotify's AI DJ Adds French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese

Spotify's AI DJ is getting less American. The feature, which generates personalized music mixes narrated by an AI voice that comments on your listening habits and mood, now speaks French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese. The expansion was announced on May 7, 2026.

Spotify launched AI DJ in February 2023 as an English-only feature. More than three years later, it's finally reaching some of its largest non-English markets. Germany, France, Italy, and Brazil collectively represent tens of millions of Spotify users, so this isn't a niche update.

The DJ feature does two things: it curates songs based on your listening history, and it generates short spoken commentary between tracks explaining why it picked something. That commentary is the piece that required language support, which is presumably why rolling it out took this long - the AI voice and script generation had to work in each new language, not just the music selection.

This is a low-stakes but steady sign that AI-powered audio features are moving past English-first development. For non-English Spotify users who've watched this feature sit behind a language barrier for three years, it's a practical improvement. Whether the AI commentary translates culturally as well as it does linguistically is a different question.
