Three months into the wave of AI-generated daily briefings, Spotify is entering from an angle none of them can match: your listening history.
Studio by Spotify Labs is a new standalone desktop app that generates daily briefings, playlists, and on-demand podcast episodes. Connect your email, calendar, and notes, and the AI creates audio content - not a text summary, not a dashboard, but something you actually listen to - shaped by your Spotify listening history.
The audio output is the distinguishing feature. Dozens of apps already summarize your inbox or build daily briefings as text. Spotify is betting people want to hear that update in podcast form while commuting, working out, or making coffee, rather than reading it.
That said, Studio ships as a Spotify Labs experiment, not a core Spotify feature. Labs products have a track record of not making it into the main app. It's also PC-only at launch, cutting off most Spotify users who listen on mobile.
Google's NotebookLM already generates high-quality AI audio from uploaded documents - and it's free. Spotify has deeper personalization data and a much larger audio ecosystem, but it's entering a space where the quality bar is already higher than most people expected.
